Empowering the Next Generation: April Housing Teams Up with Project Destined

2025 Project Destined Cohort
By Victoria Scotti, Chief of Staff at April Housing
This spring, we partnered with Project Destined, a social impact program that connects students from all over the globe with leading real estate organizations to learn about the industry. April Housing joins more than 250 other real estate firms and students from 2,000 colleges and universities as part of this influential platform.
April Housing received a record-breaking number of applications from students to participate in our program, making it clear that there is a large appetite for affordable housing experience in early career professionals. Applicants representing almost 100 universities with an average GPA of 3.6, each wrote a moving application letter detailing their desire to learn more about affordable housing. We ultimately selected 21 students from 10 schools across the country to join the April Housing Bridge Program.

The program was comprised of five weeks of course training in affordable housing, with four scheduled lectures and Q&A sessions with April leaders, taking a deep dive into affordable housing development, financing, asset management, operations, and more. Students had the chance to interact with leaders, ask insightful and well-informed questions, and make connections that can last a lifetime.
Bo Twumasi, who was instrumental in the development of the program at April Housing, said, & We are committed to long-term affordable housing, regularly making 10+ year investments and beyond. But we cannot invest only in the real estate itself, we also need to invest in the next generation of industry professionals. The Project Destined students are the future stewards of our affordable housing, and our investment in them today will have far-reaching benefits for years to come.
In the final week of the program, students journeyed from across the country to the April Housing headquarters in Los Angeles to meet with various members of our team. Each student sat for one-on-one discussions with April team members who are early on in their careers in affordable housing. This gave them a chance to get invaluable advice on classes to take, how to look for jobs, and what to expect in the early days of a career in affordable housing. The April Housing team was so honored to play an important role in the mentorship of these students.
