April Housing and the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) Celebrate the Grand Reopening of Three Newly Renovated Affordable Housing Communities in Austin

Investing more than $60M to modernize the communities while extending affordability for an additional 30 years.

AUSTIN, TX – (April 23, 2026) – April Housing, Blackstone Real Estate’s affordable housing portfolio company, in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) and the City of Austin, today announced the grand reopening of three affordable housing communities providing residents of more than 650 newly renovated homes with access to stable and affordable housing for at least an additional 30 years.

April Housing has completed more than $60 million in upgrades and improvements at three Austin communities including:

  • Heritage Pointe Senior Community, 1950 Webberville Rd., 240 apartments, serving households earning 30-80% Area Median Income (AMI)
  • Eagle’s Landing Family Community, 8000 Decker Lane, 240 apartments, serving households earning 60% AMI
  • Village at Collinwood Senior Community, 1001 Collinwood West Dr., 174 apartments, serving households earning 60% AMI

“Preserving existing affordable housing is a critical part of Austin’s housing strategy,” said Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. “Projects like these allow us to extend affordability, strengthen neighborhoods, and responsibly invest in the housing Austin residents depend on.”

“The Housing Authority of the City of Austin is proud to lead this effort alongside our partners at April Housing and Austin Mayor Kirk Watson to preserve and reinvest in these communities, ensuring they remain affordable, high-quality homes for the families and seniors who rely on them,” said Michael Gerber, HACA President & CEO. “These renovations reflect HACA’s long-standing commitment to protecting affordability in Austin while strengthening communities through thoughtful, mission-driven investment.”

A grand reopening event was held on-site at Heritage Pointe on April 22 honoring the preservation and revitalization, with attendance of the Mayor, officials from the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA), the City of Austin, leaders from April Housing and Blackstone, as well as partners who worked throughout the communities and members of the community.

Heritage Pointe previously included 47 market-rate units, which have been fully converted to affordable as part of the resyndication process, adding to the city’s affordable housing supply. These communities are now 100% affordable. Originally built between 1997 and 2004, the properties now feature beautifully updated one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes, along with renovated and enhanced amenities designed to support comfort, connection, and quality of life for residents. HACA and April Housing completed significant renovations designed to improve the day-to-day resident experience across each property’s common spaces and complete home transformations in all residential units, including:

  • Renovated kitchens and bathrooms, with new fixtures, energy-efficient appliances and lighting throughout.
  • Replacing all hot water heaters and split systems with modern models, significantly reducing energy consumption.
  • Modernized community spaces, including two updated playgrounds, pool, and gym facilities.

“We are thrilled to deliver meaningful improvements for our residents as we look to set the bar for affordable housing preservation,” said Perica Bell, head of preservation, April Housing. “A key pillar of our mission is to preserve affordable housing. Through the process of resyndication, April Housing can extend rent affordability for at least 30 more years and leverage capital to enhance residents’ homes and transform communities.”

Jaiye Falusi, Managing Director at Blackstone Real Estate, said: “Preserving affordability is central to the mission of April Housing and we are incredibly proud to celebrate the culmination of the team’s hard work in reopening three Austin communities today. Because of April Housing’s commitment to providing an exceptional living experience for residents, families at Heritage Pointe, Eagle’s Landing and Village at Collinwood will now benefit from these improvements and have access to affordable housing for years to come.”
